Simultaneous Interpretation

This is the most sought after type of interpretation in multilingual events due to the fact that the interpretation occurs at the same time as the lecturer's speech.

The simultaneous interpreters receive a challenging and exhaustive training in terminology and speed of translation before they are employed as interpreters.

The simultaneous interpretation is aided by infrared sound equipment, interpretation booths, and other devices that enable the interpreter to adequately and precisely listen to the speaker from within the booth and produce the same speech in another language.

It is essential to depend on reliable equipment that will guarantee the interpreter hears the speech and then the audience hears the interpretation.

Consecutive Interpretation

This type of interpretation requires extensive training in memory and note taking. The interpreter listens to the speech and when the speaker stops, the interpreter rapidly translates what the speaker has said in the other language. Once the interpreter finishes his intervention, the speaker can continue with his speech. A distinction from simultaneous interpretation is that continuous interpretation can greatly extend a speech's length.

Whispering

Whispering is basically simultaneous interpretation without sound equipment, spoken at the ear of the person who needs the translation. It is used in meetings or conferences where no more than 3 people will need to be at the side of the interpreter to hear the interpretation.
